Washington, DC – Drew Stafford tallied twice and Ryan Miller made 44 saves, as Buffalo moved alone into eighth place in the Eastern Conference after a 5-1 decision over Washington at Verizon Center.
Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville and Cody McCormick also lit the lamp for the Sabres, who hold a two-point edge over their Tuesday foes for the final playoff berth in the East. Both clubs have five games remaining.
Tyler Ennis added a pair of assists as Buffalo won its season-high fifth straight contest.
Alexander Semin provided the lone offense for the Capitals, who have dropped five of their last seven.
Braden Holtby was pulled after giving up three goals on 18 shots in less than 23 minutes. Michal Neuvirth finished by allowing a pair of scores on 13 shots.
