Kaiserslautern parts ways with Kurz Mar 20th 2012, 17:58 Kaiserslautern, Germany –  Kaiserslautern announced Tuesday that it has decided to part ways with head coach Marco Kurz after a poor run that has left the club at the foot of the Bundesliga table. Kurz took over as Kaiserslautern boss ahead of the 2009-10 season and guided the Red Devils to first place in Bundesliga 2, gaining promotion to Germany's top flight. He lifted Kaiserslautern to a seventh-place finish last season, but the club now sits bottom of the Bundesliga on 20 points and is without a win in its last 16 league contests. "After the 4-1 defeat against FC Schalke 04 and several intense discussions we have come to the collective decision that this is the step we had to take," said CEO Stefan Kuntz. "Over the past few weeks and months we have put several different measures in place in order to set the team back on the road to success. Unfortunately we weren't able to achieve what we set out to." "This was not an easy step for us to take, as Marco Kurz has always given himself completely to the task at hand and the well-being of the club," Kuntz continued. "With the promotion in 2010 and the seventh-place finish in 2011 we have achieved great things together. Marco Kurz has earned the highest respect and appreciation for the work he has done and his personal integrity. However in order to exhaust every possible option for us to survive this season, we had no choice but to take this route." Assistant coach Oliver Schafer and goalkeeping coach Gerry Ehrmann will assume first-team coaching duties until a full-time replacement is announced, which is expected to take place in the coming days.
