Red Sox issue statement on Jenks

Fort Myers, FL –  The Boston Red Sox issued a statement regarding the arrest of reliever Bobby Jenks early Friday morning.

The Boston Globe reported Friday that Jenks was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence after allegedly striking two cars in the parking lot of a Fort Myers establishment while driving an SUV. Jenks was booked shortly before 4 a.m. (et) and released at 8:45 a.m. after posting a $4,250 bond.

"We have been made aware of a situation regarding Bobby Jenks and take such matters seriously. We are gathering information and will refrain from further comment at this time."

The 31-year-old faces five charges, according to the paper: two counts of DUI and property damage, one count DUI alcohol or drugs, one count DUI and property damage and one count on leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

Jenks, who is currently recovering from back surgery, is scheduled for an April 9 court appearance, the Globe has learned from the police report.
