Toronto, ON –  The Toronto Maple Leafs signed undrafted free agent forward Spencer Abbott on Wednesday.

TSN of Canada reported that Abbott was inked to an amateur tryout deal for the remainder of this season and will report to the Marlies of the American Hockey League, while his entry-level contract will kick in at the start of next year.

Abbott finished his senior season at the University of Maine with 21 goals and 62 points in 39 games -- and was named one of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player.

The Black Bears were selected to the NCAA tourney but lost in their first- round game to Minnesota-Duluth.

Over his four years in Orono, the 23-year-old native of Hamilton, Ontario, posted 53 goals and 146 points in 151 contests.
