Cilic, Kohlschreiber to clash for Munich title
May 5th 2012, 16:06

Munich, Germany –  Croat Marin Cilic and No. 2 German Philipp Kohlschreiber were semifinal winners Saturday at the $525,000 BMW Open, a clay-court French Open tuneup.

The third-seeded Cilic blasted six aces and didn't face a break point as he erased German wild card and 2000 Munich finalist Tommy Haas 6-3, 6-4. The oft-injured Haas prevailed in their only previous meeting, a four-plus hour battle in the third round at Wimbledon in 2009.

Kohlschreiber outlasted second-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4. The fourth-seeded Augsburg native advanced to his second career Munich final despite converting only three of the 13 break points offered him. He titled here in 2007.

A Munich runner-up two years ago, Cilic has a 6-6 career record in finals, while Kohlschreiber has gone 3-2 in championship matches.

Cilic beat Sunday's opponent in their last encounter, but still trails the lifetime series 4-3.

The winner will earn $95,000.
