Marlins' Juan Carlos Oviedo receives eight-week suspension May 29th 2012, 00:32 Miami, FL –  Miami Marlins reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo was suspend eight weeks for engaging in age and identity fraud the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Monday. Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez before his true identity was discovered last year, will serve the suspension through Sunday, July 22. He can participate in extended spring training games and will be eligible for one rehabilitation assignment in the minors for a maximum of 16 days. Oviedo spent the off-season in the Dominican Republic clearing up his immigration status. On Friday he announced he had received a visa from the United States government. Playing as Nunez, the 30-year-old (one year older than previously listed) spent seven seasons in the majors, four with the Royals from 2005-2008, before joining the Marlins in 2009. He registered an 18-20 record with a 4.34 earned run average, 92 saves and 288 strike outs.
