Chicago, IL –  Rajon Rondo made up for missing Game 2 in a big way, recording his seventh-career playoff triple-double to lift the Celtics to a 90-84 overtime victory over the Hawks in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal matchup at TD Garden on Friday. Rondo scored the first four points for Boston in the extra session, but a Joe Johnson layup had the Hawks within two with under two minutes to play. After both teams came up empty on their next possessions, Rondo got to the bucket but missed long on a layup attempt. However, Kevin Garnett was there for the putback slam to make it a four-point game and Boston went 2-of-4 from the line down the stretch to hang on for the victory. Rondo, who missed Game 2 as he served a one-game suspension for making contact with an official in Game 1, finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. Game 2 hero Paul Pierce added 21 points while Garnett added a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards to give Boston a 2-1 edge in the series. The Hawks, playing without star forward Josh Smith after he injured his knee late in their Game 2 loss, got 29 points from Johnson, while Jeff Teague chipped in 23 points and six assists. Game 4 of the series is slated for Sunday in Boston.

Final Score: Philadelphia 79, Chicago 74

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Spencer Hawes scored 21 points and the Philadelphia 76ers finished on a big run Friday night to beat the Chicago Bulls, 79-74, in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series. The Sixers ended on a 23-5 run to take a 2-1 lead in the series with Game 4 set for Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. Jrue Holiday scored 17 points, Evan Turner had 16 and Lou Williams added 14 off the bench, but Hawes was the star. The 7- foot-1 center gave the Sixers the lead for good with a long jumper just inside the three-point line with 2:11 remaining. The top-seeded Bulls, after losing star Derrick Rose to a torn knee ligament in Game 1, saw center Joakim Noah roll his ankle badly in the third quarter of this one. Noah came back in the game, but eventually left for good. Carlos Boozer had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulls.

Final Score: Denver 99, LA Lakers 84

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Ty Lawson scored 25 points on Friday and the Nuggets rode a strong start to a 99-84 win over the Lakers in Game 3 of a Western Conference quarterfinal matchup. Denver had never led in the series entering Friday, but jumped out to a 16-point advantage in the first quarter and Los Angeles never fully recovered. JaVale McGee added 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for the Nuggets, who lost forward Al Harrington to a fractured nose in the third quarter. Danilo Gallinari and Andre Miller both scored 13 and Kenneth Faried finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Andrew Bynum scored 18 points -- all in the second half -- and grabbed 12 points for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored 18 points on 7-of-23 shooting. Game 4 is set for Sunday in Denver.
