Los Angeles, CA –  Trevor Cahill pitched into the eighth inning and Justin Upton drove in two runs to lead the Diamondbacks over Washington, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series. Cahill (2-2) gave up six hits and a run while fanning five over 7 1/3 innings. Bryan Shaw and David Hernandez finished out Arizona's third straight victory. Jordan Zimmermann (1-2) allowed eight hits and four runs -- three earned -- over 6 1/3 innings to take the loss. Tuesday also marked the DC debut for Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, who finished 0-for-3.

Final Score: Philadelphia 4, Atlanta 2

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - John Mayberry Jr. scored the go-ahead run on a Jonny Venters wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies doubled up the Atlanta Braves, 4-2, in the opener of a three-game series at Turner Field. Ty Wigginton hit a two-run single and Hunter Pence also knocked in a run for the Phillies, who have won five of their last seven games. Philadelphia has won eight in a row over its NL East rival. Brian McCann belted a solo home run for Atlanta, which has dropped three of four.

Final Score: Houston 6, New York 3

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Jed Lowrie and Chris Snyder both homered in support of J.A. Happ and the Astros downed the Mets, 6-3, on Tuesday. Lowrie hit a two-run blast in the first inning and Snyder followed with a three- run shot in the second. J.D. Martinez added an RBI for Houston, which has won the first two of this three-game series. Happ (2-1) allowed three runs on six hits while striking out seven over 6 1/3 frames. Brett Myers tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save of the season. Scott Hairston, Andres Torres and Josh Thole had an RBI apiece for New York while Jon Niese (2-1) lasted just three innings and was charged with five runs in the loss.

Final Score: St. Louis 10, Pittsburgh 7

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - David Freese blasted the go-ahead three-run homer during a four-run fifth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-7, in the opener of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Matt Holliday cracked a solo homer among his three hits, Yadier Molina added a pair of hits and scored three times for the Cardinals, who took two-of- three from the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend. Adam Wainwright (1-3) gave up four runs on five hits and one walk while fanning six over seven innings. Jose Tabata crushed a two-run homer, Pedro Alvarez smacked a two-run home run and added an RBI single, and Garrett Jones finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Pirates. Charlie Morton (1-2) was tagged for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and two walks while fanning five in 4 1/3 innings.

Chicago at Cincinnati, postponed

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Tuesday night's game between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds was postponed due to rain. A makeup date has not yet been announced. Bronson Arroyo was scheduled to make the start for Cincinnati in the opener of this three-game set, while right-hander Jeff Samardzija was to get the start for the Cubs. Both pitchers will start when the series begins on Wednesday at Great American Ball Park.
