Chicago, IL – The San Diego Padres signed right-hander Jason Marquis to a minor league contract on Tuesday.
Marquis, who started seven games for the Minnesota Twins this season, will report to Double-A San Antonio.
The veteran was 2-4 with an 8.47 earned run average before he was designated for assignment on May 22. He was released by the Twins on Saturday.
Marquis, 33, has pitched for seven teams in his 13-year major league career, going 106-102 with a 4.63 ERA in 333 games -- 274 starts -- for the Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Rockies, Nationals, Diamondbacks and Twins.
The Padres are in Chicago for a series against the Cubs.
