Tampa, FL – Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will likely miss at least a few days with a hamstring injury and could be sidelined for about six weeks.
Longoria left Monday's game against Seattle after an awkward slide into second base on a steal attempt in the third inning. He limped off the field under his own power and the injury was initially described as sore behind the left knee.
The Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday morning that Longoria could be out for 6-to-8 weeks. The Rays have not yet commented on how long the three-time AL All-Star would be sidelined, but Longoria hopes to return soon.
"Looking forward to getting healthy and being back on the field ASAP," Longoria wrote on his Twitter feed Tuesday. "Thanks for all the support, #GoRays!"
Longoria was off to a great start for the 2012 season, batting .329 in 23 games with four homers and a team-best 19 runs batted in.
