Sandusky child sex abuse trial set to begin in Pa.
Jun 5th 2012, 07:04

BELLEFONTE, Pa. –  Jerry Sandusky's child molestation trial is set to begin with the start of jury selection, with prosecutors and his defense lawyers picking 12 people from the area around Penn State to decide his guilt or innocence.

Sandusky's lawyer says the 68-year-old former football defensive coordinator will be in the courtroom Tuesday for the start of a trial that's expected to last several weeks.

Opening statements are likely to be made early next week, but first jurors have to be chosen, a process that could pose a monumental challenge in an area where many have ties to Penn State.

Sandusky is charged with 52 criminal counts for alleged abuse of 10 boys over 15 years, allegations he's denied. Among the expected witnesses are several young men who claim Sandusky abused them.
