Free agent signings: Steed joins Jets; Cameron, Bears a match

Philadelphia, PA –  Undrafted free agents started to come to terms with NFL teams shortly after the conclusion of the three-day draft Saturday evening.

Furman cornerback Ryan Steed, one of the more surprising undrafted players from the FCS, joined the New York Jets. JBScouting.com reported there were medical concerns with Steed.

Two of Steed's Furman teammates also signed free agent contracts with teams. Offensive tackle Ryan Lee went to the Pittsburgh Steelers and linebacker Kadarron Anderson inked a contract with the New Orleans Saints.

Old Dominion defensive tackle Ronnie Cameron, the 2011 CAA Football Defensive Player of the Year, came to terms with the Chicago Bears.

Two other CAA standouts, Massachusetts linebacker Tyler Holmes and Maine safety Trevor Coston, also signed with the Bears, as did Liberty wide receiver Chris Summers.

Richmond quarterback Aaron Corp signed with Buffalo Bills.

Tight end Matt Veldman from 2011 FCS champion North Dakota State, offensive guard D.J. Hall from Texas State and defensive back Dontrell Johnson of Murray State signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Among wide receivers, Missouri State's Jermaine Saffold agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns, Montana State's Elvis Akpla picked the Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Tech's Tim Benford signed with the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers brought in South Dakota State wide receiver Dale Moss.

Appalchian State cornerback DeAndre Presley, the former quarterback, picked the San Diego Chargers. His teammate, running back Travaris Cadet, agreed to join the New Orleans Saints.

Monmouth safety Jose Gumbs also signed with the Saints, while Colgate running back Nate Eachus picked the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jacksonville State cornerback A.J. Davis (Saints), running back Calvin Middleton (Rams) and defensive end Monte Lewis (Redskins) all agreed to contracts.

Montana's signings included offensive tackle Jon Opperud to the Seattle Seahawks, wide receiver Jabin Sambrano to the Indianapolis Colts and kicker Brody McKnight to the Jets.

The Seahawks also signed Portland State safety Deshawn Shead, the Jets agreed to a deal with Jackson State linebacker Donavan Robinson and Eastern Kentucky cornerback Jeremy Caldwell picked the Rams.

McNeese State cornerback Janzen Jenkins picked the New York Giants. Another Southland Conference player, Stephen Choice, signed with the St. Louis Rams.

New Hampshire defensive end Brian McNally agreed to join the Redskins and James Madison defensive end/linebacker D.J. Bryant came to terms with the Houston Texans.
