Zakopalova wins; Pironkova bounced in Budapest

Budapest, Hungary –  Fourth-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova was among Monday's winners, while third-seeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova came up a first-round loser at the $220,000 Budapest Grand Prix tennis event, a clay-court French Open tune-up.

Zakopalova held off Brit Anne Keothavong 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2, while Pironkova gave way to Georgian Anna Tatishvili 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 at Romai Tennis Academy.

Fifth-seeded Marina Erakovic outlasted France's Pauline 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), while sixth-seeded Croat Petra Martic handled Hungarian wild card Csilla Borsanyi 6-0, 7-5.

Another upset came when capable Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak drove out seventh- seeded Israeli Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-3.

Additional Day-1 wins came for Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, Hungarian wild card Vanda Lukacs and Russian Elena Vesnina.

The top seeds here are Italian Sara Errani and Russian Ksenia Pervak.

Italy's Roberta Vinci, who is not defending her title this week, defeated Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in last year's Budapest finale.

The 2012 champion will collect $37,000.
