Tigers place Young on restricted list
Apr 28th 2012, 15:17

Bronx, NY –  The Detroit Tigers have placed outfielder Delmon Young on the restricted list following his arrest early Friday morning in New York.

Young, according to reports, allegedly made anti-Semitic comments and attacked a man outside a New York hotel room. The New York Post reported that he was highly intoxicated and had to be taken to a local hospital to sober up before being transported to a police station for booking.

The Tigers issued a brief statement on Friday, declining to comment on "pending legal matters," but said Saturday that Young will be evaluated at the beginning of next week under terms of the MLB basic agreement.

According to the Post, Young got into a confrontation with a group of people at about 2:30 a.m. (et) and started shouting remarks about Jewish people. The incident turned physical with Young allegedly scratching a 32-year-old man during the fracas and pushing him down in a hotel lobby.

Young was not in the lineup for Friday's series-opener against the Yankees. He is batting .242 in 18 games with a home run and five runs batted in this season.

The Tigers acquired Young last August from Minnesota for the stretch run and signed him to a one-year contract this offseason.

Detroit filled Young's roster spot Saturday by recalling infielder Danny Worth from Triple-A Toledo. Worth was batting .309 in 13 games with three homers and six runs batted in for the Mud Hens.
